A Day in the Life of an AIT

Running a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) or long-term care center is a type of healthcare administration that requires strong business acumen, long-term patience and focus, elevated regulatory compliance, and a balance of medical care, hospitality, and business ownership. A SNF administrator works to balance occupancy (or census) with long-term residents in a care facility for more complex healthcare issues and short-term, high-turnover patients in recovery from surgery, illness, or injury.

No two days as a SNF administrator are the same. Here are some general guidelines about what you will learn over the course of your training to become a skilled nursing healthcare administrator.

Typical Training Timeline for an AIT

Learning

Each day is full of learning and training focused on medical and clinical care, budgeting, industry regulations and surveying, compliance, admissions, family care, quality assurance, and many other aspects of healthcare administration that keep a skilled nursing facility running.

Preparation

The best way to prepare for certification is through hands-on experience in the field as an administrator-in-training in addition to many hours of studying for the testing required to be certified as a long-term care administrator in a skilled nursing facility.
